The first day of a new year. One of my favorite times, despite the winter weather. I have a few goals for this year. Not so much “resolutions” as things I have an overall plan for and will be breaking down into smaller, more reachable goals throughout the year.
Get my house in order
I mean this literally, not figuratively. I’m on a yearlong quest to clean and organize my house, get everything out of storage, and get rid of anything that doesn’t need to be here. I will be trying different methods, as long as I keep moving forward, and will have an overall room focus each month.
For January, I’m following Clean Mama’s January Declutter Challenge to get started. You can find Clean Mama’s blog here. Week one of the challenge is the Declutter Jumpstart. You can download her printable challenge worksheet here.
Get out of the house more
Grocery shopping doesn’t count. Trips with the kids don’t count. Me, out alone or with other adults. I’m aiming for once a week, but at least twice a month is the goal. Also, I plan to get away for a night on my own or with friends quarterly. I already went out for drinks (well, A drink) last Wednesday, and I have plans for an overnight trip to Boston in April.
Follow Dave Ramsay’s baby steps
I’m already through step 1a (pay bills on time), and most of the way through step one (save $1,000 in a starter emergency fund). This is after Christmas, new tires for my CR-V, and a $450 vet bill for our kitten. I’ll be up to step 2 (Debt Snowball) shortly.
What do you have planned for this year? Will you be joining me in any of my goals, or do you have any of your own to reach for?
