Between work and home I’ve been ridiculously busy lately, so I haven’t had time to update in a while.  Have you been doing the Clutter Challenge that I mentioned in another post?  I have a bit, but not as much as I’d like.  I thought I’d do a quick review now.

Week 1:  Declutter Jumpstart

The first week the plan was to do a whole house declutter, clean up floors and surfaces, make sure you have all the necessary cleaning supplies and straighten the laundry area.

How I did:  Well….I cleared up most of the floors and swept them, which they need ALL the time with a part-lab dog and three cats.  I cleared a few surfaces, mostly in the kitchen and my bedroom, but not all.  I have plenty of cleaning supplies, so no worries there.  My “laundry area” consists of a washing machine in my kitchen with a small cabinet above it to hold detergent, bleach and stain remover, and a dryer in a hall closet with a shelf above it.  There wasn’t much to do with it.  I try to keep it fairly neat since there is not much room.

Results:  I didn’t get as much decluttering done as I’d hoped.  I’m happy with what I did get done, because it’s more than I’ve gotten done in a while, but I also feel like it hasn’t made much of a dent in the overall clutter issue.

Week 2:  Kitchen

In week two, the focus was the kitchen.  Cleaning and clearing the counters, fridge, drawers and cabinets, under the sink, etc.

How I did:  I did (with the help of my older kids) clean up the kitchen as far as dishes, counters and floors.  I recently ordered a new kitchen island with wheels on Wayfair because the storage in my kitchen is somewhat lacking.  The upper cabinets are ok, but the lower ones don’t work the way they should.  Plus there is a corner cabinet  (both upper and lower) that are a huge of a waste of space.

Results:  My kitchen needs redecorating and to have the storage issues addressed, but other than that I’m satisfied with what I got done.  I try to keep the clutter in there at a minimum because it’s so crowded as is.  I did get to clean out my fridge, which needed it!

Week 3:  Bathrooms

We’re now in week three now, which is decluttering bathrooms.  Clearing and cleaning the counters, cabinets, drawers.  Plus dealing with makeup, towels and other linen-closet/bathroom related items.

How I did:  It’s been a busy week.    Basically, I swept a floor and cleaned a sink.  Keep in mind we have two bathrooms, so not exactly a triumph.  There’s still today, and I’ll be catching up.  It really doesn’t take long to clean and declutter a bathroom, not even two.  Not sure I’ll get to the linen closet, but we’ll see.

Results:  Stay tuned! I’ll update again soon.

Have you been following along?  Or doing something on your own to get your house in order?  I’m always looking for suggestions, and love hearing how others are doing.  Post your wins and not-quite-wins in the comments.
